Austin, TX – On Friday, November 21, 2025, the State Board of Education (SBOE) approved a new high-quality instructional material supplemental math program, Math Catalyst™ Texas + Zearn Math for Texas™, awarding the blended learning program a 97% average Quality score—the highest score among K–5 supplemental math materials reviewed by the state’s Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) process.
Math Catalyst™ Texas + Zearn Math for Texas™ builds on the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) vision for Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math by delivering wraparound solutions for both teachers and students that connect classroom instruction, independent digital learning, and intervention. Bluebonnet Learning is a trademark owned by the Texas Education Agency and is used by Great Minds under license.
The program was recognized for 100% alignment to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and received perfect scores in Progress Monitoring, Depth and Coherence of Key Concepts, Balance of Conceptual and Procedural Understanding, and Productive Struggle.
“The new partnership between Great Minds and Zearn is already making math feel more connected for teachers and students alike,” said Amanda Pelletier, Elementary Math Coordinator for Boerne ISD. “Lessons flow naturally from teacher-led instruction to digital learning. Teachers say planning feels easier, students are more engaged, and everyone is speaking the same math language. It’s exciting to see how this alignment is helping classrooms across Texas feel even more confident and connected in math learning.”
With SBOE approval, districts selecting the program may apply the state-funded annual entitlement of $40 per student toward its adoption.
“School systems are navigating a crowded field of math programs, digital tools, and training providers, and too often those pieces don’t connect,” said Stephanie Ely, Chief Academic Officer at Zearn. “Math Catalyst Texas + Zearn Math for Texas creates a single, coherent system—designed together, not bolted on.”
The program equips teachers with the tools they need to reach every learner at every tier—including comprehensive data to inform decision making and coordinated training to ensure implementation success. This happens by pairing Every Student Success Act (ESSA) Tier 1-rated adaptive digital learning from Zearn Math for Texas with coherent teacher-led intervention from Math Catalyst Texas.
“Just as we want students to experience math as a coherent, connected story across all tiers of instruction and from grade level to grade level, so too should teachers and leaders have coherent, connected implementation support for Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math, Zearn Math for Texas, and Math Catalyst Texas,” said Michael Norton, Regional Director of Great Minds Implementation Services.
Districts adopting the program will receive implementation training on the whole model, delivered by Great Minds. Great Minds is a LASO 4-approved professional development provider for Bluebonnet Learning implementation. Additionally, Zearn has certified Great Minds to also deliver their Zearn Math for Texas implementation training.
This unified training approach streamlines professional learning by eliminating disconnected guidance from various providers—improving teacher autonomy and enabling them to implement the program more efficiently.
