Introducing Math Catalyst Texas

Math Catalyst™ Texas multi-tier intervention and acceleration resources can activate a classroom with energy, sparking opportunities for all students to thrive with the TEKS. Students can extend, practice, or receive explicit and systematic direct-intervention instruction from the teacher. Fully aligned with and informed by Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math formative assessments, both hands-on and collaborative activities propel students forward across a progression of concepts.

Resource Structure

Math Catalyst Texas consists of seven strands across Kindergarten through Grade 5. Concepts within these strands can support students in any grade to address learning gaps and can also support students in Grade 6 and above who require remediation and intervention.

A table showing the resource structure of Math Catalyst Texas and how the seven strands are spread across grades K–5.

Program Components

Each strand is composed of a progression of concepts, and each concept includes a series of components, shown below, that can be used in small group direct instruction as well as at stations.

  • Concept Guides
Includes preparation materials, student misconceptions, language supports, and family support
  • Progress Check
Measures student proficiency to guide instructional decisions
  • Concept Mini Lessons
Made up of 76 Concepts across almost 300 Mini Lessons for small group instruction
  • Practice
Provides spaced retrieval and repetition and spiral review opportunities
  • Application
Provides opportunities for extension and the building of fluency and automaticity

Targeted Intervention

Teachers can quickly address learning gaps and misconceptions with short, targeted Concept Mini Lessons that can be delivered for small group intervention.

Provide a Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Texas Classrooms

Eureka Math² California Edition presents mathematics learning as a coherent story, leveraging connections between concepts and big ideas to support deep conceptual understanding. Although each module is centered around its own big idea, lessons give students many opportunities to make connections to the content of other modules and content areas.

Every lesson in Eureka Math² California Edition contains a language objective and research-based supports to help all students, including multilingual learners, engage with the curriculum’s language rich, discourse-based lessons.

The 2024 California Mathematics Framework calls for greater emphasis on data science. Lessons help students build a conceptual understanding of data and statistics. Educators who use Eureka Math² California Edition also have access to supplemental data science materials that help students make sense of data in real-world contexts and use data to make decisions.

The core curriculum and supplemental materials are created with California’s Environmental Principles and Concepts in mind. Core lessons and other instructional resources embed content that brings this part of the Framework to life.

Eureka Math² California Edition is focused on honoring all individuals as valuable contributors to the math classroom, helping shape students’ sense of themselves as capable learners.

Implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) requires educators to have the materials to support the diverse learning needs of all students, especially students who are striving to understand math concepts. Through the use of Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math assessments, educators will have the data they need to identify which students require additional support. Math Catalyst Texas Alignment Guides offer clear direction on the order and progression of topics aligned to the TEKS, making it easier for educators to plan instruction that meets each learner where they are.

Math Catalyst Texas provides multi-tier prevention and acceleration resources through supplemental instruction, practice, extensions, and application activities.

Tier 1 – Spiral Review and Extension
Tier 2 – Supplemental Instruction and Practice
Tier 3 – Targeted Intensive Instruction

Outcome-Focused Intervention Supports

Math Catalyst Texas is grounded in proven, research-based intervention practices. It's alignment with evidence-based strategies equips educators to elevate student outcomes while supporting compliance with policy and funding expectations.

Evidence-Based Intervention Strategies

  1. Explicit, Systematic Instruction: This instruction is embedded in every Concept Mini Lesson Objective, is evidenced in the Progression section, and is executed in all strategies taught.
  2. Effective Questioning: Prompts that assess student understanding are found in the Analyze Student Progress section of every Concept Mini Lesson.
  3. Concrete, Representational, and Abstract Models: Students move through concrete, representational, and abstract phases for each and every concept.
  4. Teaching Mathematical Vocabulary and Symbols: Sample dialogue helps students achieve the precise use of mathematical language, and symbols and Language Support notes provide guidance for scaffolding.
  5. Fluency Building: Students build fluency in a variety of skills through Play a Game Application tasks.
  6. Error Analysis: For concepts aligned to Grade 2 and above, Practice Pages provide students with opportunities to analyze incorrect work samples.

Deepen & Extend

Reinforce connections to Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math concepts with engaging games, activities, and extensions, which provide students with opportunities for collaboration and spiral review. Aligned resources provide multiple entry points into the mathematics through tiered practice pages and Practice Helpers. Students build fluency with low-floor, high-ceiling tasks and explore problem-solving in various ways including:

  • Solve a Problem
  • Play a Game
  • Study a Solution
  • Solve a Task
