High-Quality Instructional Materials & Implementation Support Impact on STAAR Math Proficiency
The following research details the impact of high-quality instructional materials and content-based implementation support on Texas student proficiency based on STAAR math scores.
An analysis of math proficiency on the STAAR test revealed that districts implementing Eureka Math TEKS Edition experienced higher growth in student performance, particularly after the second year of implementation, compared to districts that implemented other math instructional materials.
Researchers also found that the growth in student proficiency for districts implementing Eureka Math TEKS Edition was even greater when Great Minds implementation support was provided, particularly among at-risk, economically disadvantaged, migrant, and bilingual student populations.

Made for Texas Great Minds, in partnership with the TEA, developed the high-quality Eureka Math TEKS Edition for Grades K–5 in school year 2020–2021. 380 Texas school districts of various sizes, communities, and student populations have implemented a combination of the Eureka Math TEKS Edition print and digital materials as well as in-depth PD and coaching developed by Great Minds. The new SBOE-approved Bluebonnet Learning K–5 Math instructional materials feature the same learning design and programmatic components as Eureka Math TEKS Edition. |

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This study evaluates the impact of the Eureka Math TEKS Edition instructional materials and Great Minds implementation support on student learning, specifically the growth in STAAR math proficiency of students in Grades 3–6* during the 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 school years.
Third-party researchers analyzed STAAR math proficiency data across 1,188 districts in Texas, including 145 districts that implemented Eureka Math TEKS Edition and 1,043 districts that implemented other instructional materials. The researchers examined math proficiency data for Eureka Math TEKS Edition districts based on the implementation support provided, years of implementation, and student demographics. Proficiency is measured as the percentage of students scoring at “Meets Grade Level” or “Masters Grade Level.”
*The analysis focused on the proficiency data of three student cohorts: 3rd grade students entering 4th grade, 4th grade students entering 5th grade, and 5th grade students entering 6th grade.
