The Engineering Challenge: Transferring Knowledge to Solve Real-World Problems

Learn the 3 major components that make up a well-balanced engineering activity. Through the exploration of a PhD Science Texas Engineering Challenge, participants uncover the ways engineering can build a strong classroom community where students practice self-management, social and self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Phenomena: Engaging Students With the Story of Science

Walk through a PhD Science Texas module storyline to see how students make sense of the curriculum's authentic compelling, and multi-layered phenomena. You will be introduced and challenged to identify the different types of phenomena within each module.

Coherence: Building Knowledge Within a Module & Across Grade Levels

Follow a student on their journey from kindergarten through fifth grade as they build science knowledge within and across grade levels. After experiencing various examples of vertical and horizontal alignment within PhD Science Texas, participants dive into the TEKS to identify areas of intentional coherence.

Investigations: Leveraging the Updated TEKS in your Science Classroom

Experience two investigations to uncover how the Content Standards, Recurring Themes and Concepts, and especially the Scientific and Engineering Practices are embedded into the PhD Science Texas curriculum.

Uncovering the New Science TEKS: What, Why, and How

Hear from Koi Beard, a Senior Implementation Support Specialist, and former 3rd grade teacher, to learn what's changing with the new science TEKS and how we are prepared to support you in accelerating teaching with the new standards.
