Connect with your Great Minds® partners during the 2024 Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching (CAST) in San Antonio, Texas.
At our booth, you'll be able to preview the new science program, PhD Science® Texas – where students explore authentic phenomena through hands-on learning and student-led instruction. PhD Science inspires scholars to wonder about the scientific world around them while empowering them to make sense of it. PhD Science Texas is:
- 100% TEKS- and ELPS-aligned;
- recommended by the Texas Education Agency, and
- approved by the Texas State Board of Education.
Attend one of the many free sessions at the booth to engage in a demonstration of the curriculum in action, enter for a chance to win 1 of 3 iPad Airs, learn about the various teacher and student resources, demo our digital platform, and ask questions of our Texas science team.

POV: Influence through Engineering Challenges
From the Point of View (POV) of an educator, this session will demonstrate the power of hands-on learning and its implications on knowledge building through real-world phenomena. Participants will gain insight into the PhD Science Texas® Engineering Design Process and understand what it means for students to move from “learning” about science to “doing” science to solve problems.
Grades 2–3 | 11:30AM | Room | Sanobar Bhaidani
Flailing or Flying: Supporting Students through Productive Struggle
Engage in a demonstration about the importance of productive struggle in science instruction and curriculum. The shifts in science pedagogy promote classrooms where students engage with rigorous activities that require problem-solving skills. PhD Science Texas® models how to motivate, stimulate, and sustain students through challenges while maintaining a safe classroom environment.
Grades 2–3 | 1:00 PM | Room | Caren Limbrick
Ask Me Anything: Get the Hot Takes from the Hot Seat on 3D Curriculum!
Ask a group of experienced 3D curriculum leaders about implementing the revised science TEKS while eating SOUR candy. This spin on the TV show, “Hot Ones,” will open your senses to the possibilities of science implementation, including the wins, the challenges, and the growth! We will laugh, we will cry, and we will impress you with our ability to talk through our winces about what it takes to implement a 3D curriculum
Grades 2–3 | 2:30 PM | Room | Erica Huang
Walk the Walk and Talk the Talk… Like a Scientist
Students may be able to walk the walk in science, but can they talk the talk? Part of being a scientist is solving problems through peer discussion. Intentional discourse practices can give students strategic opportunities to use evidence in their collaborative conversations. This session will equip you with strategies to empower meaningful classroom discourse.
Grades 2–3 | 4:00 PM | Room | Caren Limbrick

Finding Magical Math Moments in Science
Use Read-Draw-Write (RDW), to foster knowledge-building opportunities for young Scientists and Mathematicians. Join us as we build a cross-curricular bridge from Math to Science through content and skills. Learn how to find, utilize and harness the "magical math moments" within your daily science practices.
Grades 2–3 | 2:00 PM | Room | Krislyn Domingue
Littles can Live, Laugh and Love Science
This session will leverage K–2 instruction with hands-on investigations to let our "littles" explore the world around them. Using real-world phenomena, students interact with tangible materials to solve problems. Lean into instruction that will empower K–2 students to notice the science in their lives, wonder about the silly world that makes them laugh and develop a deep love for science!
